SWANS AND DUCKS |
Family Anatidae
While Swans and ducks are seldom observed in Canberra gardens, they are occasionally seen or heard flying over, and some of the species common to Canberra can be readily observed on Canberra's lakes and waterways, including Black Swans (10 records), Australian Wood Ducks and Australian Black Ducks. Others are recorded occasionally in the Garden Bird Survey and may sometimes be observed in more isolated places, such as the Jerrabomberra wetlands and sewage treatment ponds along Dairy Flat Road. These include such ducks as Mallards (4), Grey Teal (5), Chestnut Teal (3), Australian Shelduck (1), Australian Shoveler (1), Musk Duck (1) and Hardhead (1).
