The Olive-backed Oriole is another summer migrant, preferring woodland and forest habitats. It can be quite vocal as it passes through the suburbs on arrival and is an accomplished vocal mimic. Birds arrive from August and numbers peak in October before dropping off as birds move away from the suburbs to breed. They are probably less conspicuous when they pass through on the return journey in autumn, and they are rare in Canberra from May to July. There is a suggestion of a small increase in numbers over the course of the survey. Nesting has been recorded in mid-November and early December, dependent young from early November to early February. R=39. BR=44.
