Brown-headed Honeyeaters are woodland birds and normally occur in small active flocks, feeding in eucalypt canopies and flowering shrubs, working over the branches, trunk and foliage. They are uncommon in gardens.

Records show a pattern typical of altitudinal migrants with numbers lowest in summer and highest in winter. No pattern is evident for yearly numbers, which fluctuate greatly. The few breeding records are of dependent young in late February and early March. R=92 BR=62.
