New Holland Honeyeaters occur in noisy active groups where nectar-producing grevilleas and banksias provide a constant food source. There are local resident populations at the Australian National Botanic Gardens, along the Murrumbidgee River and elsewhere where there are large stands of suitable shrubs. It is not common in Canberra suburbs, although individuals and isolated pairs occur in suitable gardens.

Numbers are generally lowest in summer and highest in winter. Breeding records are few but have included both nestlings and dependent young, as early as August-September or as late as March-April. R=76. BR=63.
