Grey Fantails are common inhabitants of woodland and forest, where they are easily seen hawking for insects not far above the ground. Their call is high-pitched, like a squeaky violin. They are inquisitive and will readily approach humans with a characteristic flutter and may even follow people for short distances. They are present throughout the year, with numbers slightly higher in autumn and spring. Grey Fantails numbers have increased over the 17-year survey period.

Breeding records are mainly of dependent young from January to early March. R=20. BR=35.
