|
Click on image to hear call The Rufous Whistler is a migratory woodland inhabitant, but is easily seen and heard through the warmer months in suburban gardens with some tree cover. The female is a plain brownish grey bird with underparts washed buff with vertical streaks. They are most numerous in October and March, less so through summer as many birds move into woodland reserves for breeding. They are also present in low numbers in winter. Numbers have declined over the duration of the survey, particularly in the last six years. Four breeding records include nest building in late October and dependent young in January and February. R=27. BR=54.
