In the Birds of the Australian Capital Territory - An Atlas (1992) Black Swans are described as being regularly present at Jerrabomberra Wetlands, and occasionally seen on urban lakes. Black Swans, sometimes with cygnets, are now seen quite regularly on Lake Burley Griffin, and in the summer of 1998-99 a pair raised two cygnets to maturity on Lake Tuggeranong.

Their more regular sighting on Lake Burley Griffin in recent years may be partly due to the practice of some people regularly feeding water birds (mainly with bread) at the eastern end of the lake. This is not a practice to be encouraged.
